Canvassing - Voter Registration
Mission Statement
The Portsmouth Canvassing Authority is responsible for conducting all elections in the Town of Portsmouth. Under the direction of the State Board of Elections and in cooperation with the Secretary of State, the authority is involved in all phases of the electoral process, from voter registration to tallying the votes after the polls close on Election Day.
There are approximately 14,418 registered voters in the Town of Portsmouth.
Portsmouth Board of Canvassers
The Board of Canvassers is comprised of three bipartisan members who are appointed for six-year terms by the Town Council and the Registrar of Voters is appointed by the Board of Canvassers. Two alternate members from each political party are also appointed by the Town Council.

2022 Precinct Locations & Map

IMPORTANT NOTE: The Portsmouth Multipurpose Senior Center and Melville Elementary School are no longer used as voting precincts. NO VOTING will occur at these locations on Election Day.
The precincts below reflect the 2022 Redistricting Legislation passed by the RI General Assembly in February 2022.
If you do not know your precinct, go to vote.sos.ri.gov/ to view your voter records and obtain a sample ballot.
Portsmouth precincts open on Election Day 7AM and close at 8PM.
NOTE: Some precincts may be combined for Special and Primary Elections. Voters must verify locations before going to the polls on Election Day.
