When is the Portsmouth Police Department open?

The Portsmouth Police Department's Patrol Division is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.   

When is the Records Division open?

The Portsmouth Police Department's Record Division is generally open Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.  The Records Division is closed on weekends and holidays.   

How do I get my child's car seat inspected/installed?

Sergeant Maddie Pirri [401-643-0110] and Officer Allison O’Connor [401-643-0151] can be contacted directly to make an appointment.  You may also contact the front desk officer at 401-683-0300 and ask to speak with a certified car seat technician.


How do I obtain a yard sale permit?

Yard sale permits are free of charge and can be picked up at any time from the police station.  The officer working at the front desk will ask you for the date of the yard sale as well as the start and end time of the yard sale.  The information you provide will be documented by the officer whom will then issue you the permit.


Who is the liaison for the Office of Healthy Aging at the police department?

The Portsmouth Police Detective Division [401-683-0994] has a member assigned as the liaison to the Office of Healthy Aging.


What is the permit process for parades, road races, cycling tours, and other organized events on state roads and bridges?

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation has established a permit to streamline the approval process for parades, road races, cycling tours, and other organized events on State roads and bridges. The Parade / Event Permit application must be completed and mailed or faxed to the State Traffic Engineer.
