BE ADVISED, THE FOLLOWING IS NOTICE OF THE 

U.S. CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT 1 SPECIAL ELECTION

TO BE HELD ON

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2023

Mail Ballot Applications voters can request a mail ballot online at https://vote.ri.gov . Printed applications are located at the Town Hall or online https://vote.sos.ri.gov/Voter/VotebyMail  The Canvassing office will mail applications upon request (call 683-3157 or email portsmouth_canvassing@portsmouthri.com ). 

Completed applications can be dropped off at Town Hall or mailed to Canvassing Authority at 2200 East Main Road, Portsmouth RI 02871.

Important Dates/Deadlines

Sunday, October 8LAST DAY to accept new or update existing voter registrations for this special election. Voters may submit forms in person at Town Hall or by registering online at https://vote.ri.gov. Voters can verify registration information by contacting the Canvassing office or online at https://vote.ri.gov

Canvassing staff will be in the office 8:30AM to 4:00PM to accept and process forms.

October 13– Preliminary List of Eligible Voters posted at the Portsmouth Town Hall Canvassing office.

October 17 – 

Board of Canvassers meeting at Portsmouth Town Hall, 3:00 PM, to canvass and correct the list of qualified voters.

Final date to submit regular Mail Ballot Application 4:00 PM.

October 18Final List of Eligible Voters posted at the Portsmouth Town Hall.

Early Voting begins at Town Hall during business hours and ends at 4:00 PM on November 6:

Monday – Wednesday: 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM

Thursday: 8:30 AM to 6:30PM

Friday: 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM

November 7, 2023 –ELECTION DAY

Polls open 7:00 AM and close 8:00 PM

The RI State Board of Elections allows polling sites to be combined for special elections and primaries: therefore, schools will not be used as polls for this election. Please take special note of the combined precincts and locations and confirm your location before going to vote on election day.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

Portsmouth Town Hall Council Chambers will not be a polling location on Election Day.

In accordance with RIGL§17-19-24.2, poll workers will ask you to show Photo ID when you vote at your polling site.

In accordance with RIGL §17-10-3 (c), “You must be registered to vote from your actual place of residence.”
